DAY 230

I went on a day trip to Middleburg with my mother today to go antiquing because I have the lifestyle of an 80 year old woman and absolutely love finding cool antique objects. All was well until I stepped out of the car and was greeted by 20 degree weather and 40 mph winds... so our day trip was cut to a half hour trip to two antique stores that were next to each other followed by a long car trip to find warmth indoors somewhere. We ended up at Costco. At least I got a cake out of it.

Anyway, the cold weather plus yet another bad hair day called for a beanie and a sweater. Due to false advertising from weather.com that promised 60 degree weather, I drastically underpacked so I resorted to layering a tight and simple black turtleneck under a wide-necked sweater. Paired with jeans, my go-to moto boots, and a black beanie, it's the perfect outfit for a cold day of exploring.

PSA in case my mom is reading this: I was wearing a heavy jacket but took it off to take the picture. I did not freeze and am not suffering a cold from lack of outerwear.

DAY 229

Unrelated to fashion news, I just found out that I got into UVA's exchange programme in Lyon and so I will be studying there next fall! Expect many photographs of food (oui oui croissant baguette oui oui) and maybe even some travel posts l'annee prochaine.

I'm running out of shoes and currently lusting over these Timberland boots. But, considering the $130 price tag and the difficulty I would face incorporating them into my French-chic wardrobe for next year, I've settled for my brother's old hiking boots. We can pretend they're similar.

I paired them with jeans and a striped flowy shirt, and added a puffy vest. I'm home for spring break, and while I was originally upset at not spending the week in some tropical paradise like the rest of my class who somehow magically came up with the money for these extravagant resort vacations, being home has been pretty relaxing. I haven't gotten out of bed before 1pm yet, I eat a meal every hour ish, and the weather is AMAZING- hence the vest to finish off the outfit.

DAY 228

As an avid fan of Full House, stealing this t-shirt from a friend's closet was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I usually wear it as part of a casual outfit due to the fact that I didn't want to change out of my pajamas, but I wanted to dress it up a lil today. I wore it with a tight black skirt, black tights, and black boots, and added a flannel to complete this grungey outfit.

DAY 227

I'm home for Spring Break! And today, in a move that shocked my entire family, I decided to spend my first day of vacation doing something outdoors and educational (ish) as opposed to spending it in bed eating obscene amounts of Oreos and watching every episode of Gilmore Girls like I usually do.

Since my roommates were in town for the day, we decided to go to Georgetown to do some shopping- and eating- and then go into DC to see the Natural History museum and some monuments.

A cute statue I found in Georgetown

I found some good sales at H&M, tried cuttlefish at a Spanish restaurant (which my roommate failed to mention until after we had ordered is potentially deadly), and naturally went to Sprinkles cupcakes for some probably unnecessary but very much welcome dessert.

My mini cupcake- red velvet! so damn good

This is a bacon cupcake. I know what you're thinking- ew- but apparently it tasted like everything that's right with breakfast so I'd definitely give it a try if you're ever at Sprinkles!

We then went to Washington DC to see some monuments. It was very touristy, as usual, but as it was a surprisingly nice day, it was still so pretty outside. I took this picture at the TJ memorial (I go to UVa, it had to be done) and the view is incredible! #nofilter #literallythough

Now, finally, on to the OOTD. I wore a basic H&M A-line dress with a knit cardigan over top to give the illusion of two separate pieces. Then I added tights and an infinity scarf because no matter how much I like to delude myself, it is still unfortunately winter and therefore freezing. Ugh.

DAY 226

This is me trying not to wear all black.

I broke up the solid colour with a light denim shirt, and pulled my hair back to show the silver earrings. The rest of the outfit is all black, from the knit black sweater to the leather leggings and faux leather buckle booties. I love the street/urban vibe this outfit gives off and if it weren't cold af at the moment, this would be perfect for a fall or spring outfit without a jacket.

DAY 225

I never thought the day would come, but it has. I've run out of sweaters and cardigans. Anyone who lives in Virginia can testify to the fact that we have literally experienced all four seasons in the span of a few days and as such I've worn out all my outerwear and there is (unfortunately) only a limited amount of times I wear the same thing before it gets to be laundry day.

I've turned to scarves to fix this. Inspired by one of my professors (I know), I decided to drape one of my bigger scarves and use it as a shawl on a day where Virginia decided to be Spring. The overall effect is a sophisticated vibe that I personally like and reminds me of  the style of Audrey Hepburn or Jackie O. Or my 50 year old media professor.

I made it a bit more age-appropriate and casual by wearing jeans and a simple black long-sleeve t-shirt. The result is the re-invention of the scarf as the perfect light outerwear. It's so versatile and can be used as anything from an unexpected accessory to an outfit to a blanket to be used in a freezing cold airplane cabin, making it the perfect travel necessity.
Plus, it gives a new use to the multitude of scarves I'm sure you own and wear out every day.

Check out the article I wrote on my roommate on College Fashionista! If you didn't know, I intern for them and document uni street style; a task that is a lot more daunting than I originally thought. Find the article here.

DAY 224

My life of late has been a series of bad hair days and due to that I've begun playing the "let's seen how many different ways to cover up this disaster I can find" game. Seeing as I have a collection of bandanas that has taken over half my bathroom storage (the product of many years of wishing I was a cowgirl in elementary school and stealing vintage handkerchiefs from my grandma's house), I have been incorporating them in lieu of hats.

To complement this pink one, I wore my deep purple skinny jeans and a simple grey tank. The black and white boldly patterned sweater was needed otherwise the outfit would be a lot more boring. Since both the headpiece and the sweater have bold patterns, you would think they wouldn't go together, but the key to wearing two patterns (it's not the fashion faux pas that everyone says it is!) is to find two patterns that complement each other and balance out. In this case, one of the patterns was black and white while the other was more brightly coloured, and one pieces was a lot larger than the other one. Also, both pieces complement other pieces of the outfit- the grey tank and the coloured pants- so they work together.

DAY 223

I had a super busy day of loads of errands due to the fact that big sis week (aka the crafting week from hell) is coming up. I have never seen so many ribbons and different paint colours in my entire life, and until today had no idea how to use modge podge or what it even was. After a day of crafting, I am sad to report that I still don't really know what modge podge is and the only noticeable difference in my apartment is the amount of glue on the floor left over from my attempts at using a glue gun.

In addition to the need for a comfortable outfit, it was also circa 60 degrees outside (idk anymore, Cville weather), so I wanted to wear layers. I went with this feather print shirt with flared jeans (it was colder in the morning) and a knit cardigan over top that I took off later. Not sure if they're really visible in this photo, but I also wore my favourite big sunglasses. I love big sunglasses- I'm talking the obnoxiously big ones that cover 1/3 of your face- for this summer. I feel like aviators or those round hipster ones are a bit overworn (although I love them), so I've been wearing these a lot to switch it up lately. I love the retro feel they add to an outfit!

DAY 222

I love this quilted jacket as my go-to spring/fall outer layer. It's a little oversized and may or may not be my mother's from a decade ago, but it's perfect for some added texture or an added layer! I wore it today because by some miracle, it is still 60 degrees. Currently praying to every god there is for this weather to stay another week.

Underneath, I wore this pretty pink flowy shirt that I bought in high school and haven't worn since. This look can easily be transitioned to night time by ditching the jacket, adding some accessories, and maybe changing the shoes to something darker and more appropriate for going out. Because although I have gone out in a sweatshirt and UGGs before (low point), I generally like to put at least a minimal effort into my outfit when I go out in case there are pictures taken... and I'm in a sorority, so pictures are always taken. DAY 221

I kid you not, it was 60 degrees today. I may have gone a tad overboard and refused to wear a jacket even though 60 is not even close to appropriate non-jacket-wearing weather.

Today's look plays into two of my biggest fashion loves: the 90s and men's attire. I know the last one is strange, but seriously: if you've ever worn a guy's shirt/sweater/t-shirt/jacket, you KNOW how comfortable they are. Oversized styles (aka perfect for leggings), often thick materials (go-to for cold weather), and simple patterns or colours (so they go with literally everything) make men's fashion a huge component of my wardrobe. This polo is my dad's, and I love it because it's comfy AF and also because polo shirts are something that you don't really see in women's fashion- and often with good reason. I only like polos that have a vintage feel to them, and steer clear of anything vaguely Abercrombie-esq.

I paired this polo with leather leggings and my white high-top all stars, which was a nice break from boots.

DAY 220

The snow is finally melting! I hate winter.

After waking up at the ungodly hour of 7am to write a paper due at 12 (oops) and showering, I wanted something quick but chic to wear because I have been wearing the same sweatshirt and leggings for a few days now, contrary to what you might see on this blog. Those outfits last circa 2 hours before I have to change into comfy clothes.

I went with this all-black chic look with a dark red lip. I think it's kind of a sophisticated-grungey look (at least that's what I'm calling it and hoping for the best) and it's perfect for everyday! Can easily be dressed up with some kind of black heel or wedge boot, too.

The top is from H&M and is a simple t-shirt with mesh detailing by the collarbone. Then I just wore simple black skinny jeans and buckle booties. I accessorized with hoops, midi rings, my coin necklace (what else is new), and the red lip. Praying for the days when I can wear short sleeves without a coat!!!
