DAY 192

Today I wore this grey woolen sweater and black skinny pants to hang out with one of my friends from high school. I added a gold and light pink ring to complement the gold chain necklace- an easy way to dress up this simple outfit. My black over the knee boots finished the look. I love wearing them with black pants to elongate my legs!

DAY 191

I'm a really indecisive person. This is true in reference to deciding what to eat to picking a personal style. As such, my personal style generally ends up being a combination of several different trends or styles. I love contrast in outfits- contrasting textures, colours, cuts, and styles makes an outfit more interesting.

Today, I used contrast in creating a look that was a combination of preppy (sweater with a collared shirt tucked under and riding boots), grunge (oversized flannel), and chic (leather leggings). Pairing the flannel under the sweater is different than the usual oxford or fitted button downs and adds warmth to the outfit that is perfect for a winter day! Since this particular sweater is a little long, I could wear it with leggings and not have it look trashy.

The key to creating contrast in an outfit is to use reason. This is not an excuse to contrast loud animal prints and furry clothes and call it fashion- use complementing colours or textures that end up looking chic when paired together rather than overwhelming. For example, if you're going with a furry sweater like this one from Topshop, balance it out with a muted texture like these leggings. Contrast doesn't have to mean busy prints or distracting colours!

DAY 190

Hello again! Excuse my two day absence from fashion blogging, but the reason I didn't post anything was because day one was Christmas (me in pajamas all day) and day two was recovering from Christmas (me in pajamas all day eating/watching/reading everything I got for Christmas).

Today I went for a bit of post-Christmas shopping because the sales are on par with Black Friday prices this week. I wore my new infinity scarf that I got for Christmas and am absolutely in LOVE with with a cardigan and a plain black shirt and skinny jeans. Perfect and cozy for a day at the mall! And the cardigan totally hides the holiday food baby I'm developing so it's a win-win on all fronts.

DAY 189

I dressed up a lil bit for today's Christmas Eve look. I was with my family all day and we had a church service at night, so the outfit had to be pretty conservative. It also snowed a bit today (yes, it was literally 70 degrees two days ago.. smh Virginia weather. Smh.) so I had to swap heels for boots at the last minute. These over the knee boots work well though because they are dressier than ankle booties!

I paired this soft grey turtleneck sweater over a knit black skirt. Since they both have a similar shape, the overall effect is kind of drape-y, and it looks really chic and creates a different silhouette from other more traditional skirt/sweater combinations.

For holiday parties/dressier events, I love taking everyday, chunky, comfortable sweaters and dressing them up for the night. This can easily be done by adding tights and a skirt (go for a tight skirt under a boxy sweater, or tuck it into a skater skirt to create the illusion of a smaller waist) or even just by swapping your regular leggings for a textured pair- I like leather- and throwing on a pair of heels. Voila! You're ready to go!

I included a pic of my hairstyle for the night. I just randomly put in a bunch of bobby pins in an attempt at a half-up hairdo but it ended up looking pretty good I think! I'm usually crap with hair so this is a big deal for me...

DAY 188

Happy almost Christmas Eve! Today was another busy day of last minute errands, shopping, and baking. I'm finally done though and am so ready for Christmas to get here.. like I've watched Elf about 50 times in the past week and eaten half of each batch of cookies I made. I'm ready.

Today I paired my chambray shirt from Garage with some skinny black pants and over the knee black boots. I like wearing these black pants with these black boots because they elongate my legs since it's continuously black (if that makes any sense). Basically, the over the knee boots create a streamlined look and instantly make any outfit 10x more chic.

I've also included some pictures of a sample of some of the cookies I made and a cute Christmasy display/mug in my living room just to make this post more Christmasy. Enjoy!

DAY 187

Today was a day of more Christmas shopping, so I wanted to dress appropriately for that by wearing comfortable clothes. It was also the second day of strangely warm temperatures in Northern Virginia (like, over 60 degrees. In the middle of December), so I opted for a light grey flowy shirt layered under a simple army jacket that is waaaay too thin to be acceptable for winter. But if the weather gets to act like the spring, then so do I clothing-wise. It's only fair.
I also wore my staple skinny jeans from American Eagle and some short stacked heeled booties to elongate my legs. I love these new booties from JustFab- they are the perfect cognac colour and look chic because of their height and style!

DAY 186

I wore this all black look to do some late holiday shopping and go see a movie with one of my friends from high school tonight. This being the first time I've left my house in days, I decided to throw on something a little trendier and opted for an all - black look, which if you've read my blog you know is a favourite trend of mine.

To make it less chic and more casual for a Saturday night, I wore a simple sweater with leather leggings and moto buckle booties. One of the perks of being home is that I have access to allllll the billions of hair accessories I've collected over the years, so when I found this cute little crochet bow clip, I decided to incorporate it into my outfit. The girly vibe from the bow balances out the otherwise grungy look perfectly! And since by some miracle it was 70 degrees today, I didn't have to bother with a jacket at all.

DAY 185

Day two of slowly eating my way to obesity via Christmas baking.

Today I wore the same grey flannel I seem to feature at least once a week (I wash it guys, I swear) with my burgundy skinny jeans and a pendant necklace. To dress it up for errand shopping, I added some stacked heeled booties that are just high enough to elongate my legs without making walking difficult. Ankle booties are so in this season, and so if the flat heeled ones aren't for you, there are so many heeled options out there!

DAY 184

**Ignore the horrid background while I try to find a more presentable backdrop for my outfit pictures**

Today being my first day back at home, I didn't do much besides eat and bake and watch the Kardashians Christmas Special from a while back. It was a real struggle to change into something other than my sorority spirit jersey and leggings, but that's one of the perks of having this blog: it forces me to dress like a real human at all times. Perfect on the off chance that I go to the supermarket and run into Johnny Depp.

I wore my new-ish flared jeans from American Eagle because they are the most comfortable pants after leggings. On top, I layered an oatmeal sweater and a burgundy knit cardigan from Goodwill and kept my hair up in a bun to keep it out of my face while making Christmas cookies.
