DAY 168

I spent today in the lovely town of Winchester, Virginia, with my family. If you've ever seen Gilmore Girls, it's what I imagine Stars Hollow would be like.. it had antique stores, little restaurants, and an entire store dedicated to apples (I'm not joking). It was all very cute. We had lunch at this amazing Mexican Place, then headed home. I'm including some photos from the day at the end of this post.

Since it's nearly december, it's too cold to be outside for more than 10 minutes without freezing. That being said, I had to spend quite a bit of time outside today and rather underestimated the cold weather. I wore a peacoat (see yesterday's post for pictures!) over my favourite knit turtleneck sweater, jeggings, boots, and a matching brown broad-rimmed hat. Although the hat might have been trendy etc. it didn't end up being very functional... my ears were freezing, as was the rest of my face. Here's to wishing it was fashionable to circulate with a ski mask when you have to leave the house in the winter...

Part of our lunch- Steak fajitas and chicken burritos! (to hell with healthy eating)

DAY 167

I have a love-hate relationship with Black Friday. I always hype it up in my head beforehand when, in reality, the sales aren't that great and can also be found online to avoid waking up before the sun is even up and to also avoid being trampled by over-eager middle aged women looking for Christmas presents for their children. As someone who hates crowds and also hates slow walkers, the hell that is Black Friday is never worth it in the end... although I did get some things that I've been looking for for a long time, so that's good! And I also got a blender marked down from $70 to $19. Arguably my proudest purchase.

My outfit for a long day of shopping, changing, and elbowing my way through crowds was comfortable and good for trying things on. I always like to wear either plain leggings or jeans so I can try on shirts and see what they would look like, and also like wearing a simple shirt to avoid dealing with buttons.

I wore my leather leggings, a red shirt and brown cardigan (not visible), and a silk printed scarf under my camel coloured peacoat for warmth. To carry my shopping bags, I brought my Longchamp tote.

DAY 166

Happy Thanksgiving!

Taking a break from healthy eating for a while because I'm pretty sure I ate my weight in turkey today and plan to do the same for the rest of the week due to the leftovers that have taken up half our fridge. I love food. And the many kinds of pie I consumed today.

For a big family dinner, I wanted to dress a little nicer without being too over-the-top (IE no heels), so I paired this cashmere sweater I got at a thrift shop with my favourite dark wash jeans and some riding boots. I also had a pendant necklace on earlier, but I seem to have lost it at some point between eating all the food and watching ABC family Harry Potter marathons with my little brother... hopefully it'll turn up soon!

DAY 165

I had a dentist appointment today followed by a full day of baking in preparation for Thanksgiving. Speaking as a food enthusiast, Thanksgiving is for sure my favourite holiday and I can't wait until tomorrow.

Therefore, today's outfit is a very casual look because food > clothes in my world. I wore ripped skinny jeans with my favourite vintage shirt (my dad's) and some riding boots. Since I'm only home for a few days, I didn't pack that much, so I'm having to make due with a couple pairs of shoes for the next week. I love love love wearing this baseball tee though, it's so soft because it's been worn for years, and it's very baggy and therefore forgiving (which is perfect considering the amount of food I'm about to consume tomorrow will probably make me gain 15 pounds..).

DAY 164

Today is potentially the coldest day of the year but I DON'T CARE because I get to go home for Thanksgiving tonight!! I barely finished my paper before 6 am and haven't slept since yesterday but it doesn't matter because all I have to do is go through a French test then I'm freeeeeee!

Partially because it's cold, partially because I haven't slept/showered and am having somewhat of a bad hair day, and partially because I really love hats, I decided to wear this knit beanie. I added a cardigan and matching deep red lip, some leather leggings, and a basic top to finish the look.

It's time for me to go find a comfortable and warm winter jacket because I've been resorting to wearing my camel coloured peacoat, which is neither class-appropriate nor very warm. Will hopefully find something at Black Friday!

DAY 163

I spent most of today in the library trying (and failing) to write my 5 page research paper. It's almost 3 AM and I have yet to start my paper, but on a semi-unrelated topic I can affirm that the show "Reign" is wonderful. What kind of a professor assigns a research paper the day before holiday break anyway?

I wore these black legging-esque pants because they're just as comfortable as leggings but can pass as pants, and layered a flannel over a henley for warmth. So while I wasn't as productive as I should have been, at least I looked a lil more put together than just leggings and a sweatshirt! My priorities are clearly in order here.

DAY 162

I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot for Laura Lee Designs today! Laura Lee is a purse designer who specializes in handmade colourful beaded bags. We worked with a lot of different colour bags and lots of different outfits, and it was definitely one of my favourite shoots I've done so far. Check out her website here!

For the most part, I like to wear neutral, simple outfits. The good thing about statement bags like these is that they instantly dress up an outfit- I can totally see myself wearing one of the oversized clutches with a simple black cocktail dress for a fancier event.

After I got home, I took some pictures of one of the looks- New York Chic- for this blog. The jacket was borrowed from one of my friends so I don't actually know the brand, but I absolutely love it and have now made it my mission to find one identical to it. The rest of the outfit was all black- black silk tank, black leather leggings, black pointy toe heels- to emulate the simple sophistication of New York City.

Once I get the pictures back from the shoot, I will make sure to include some here!

DAY 161

Tonight is our last sorority date function of the semester, and the theme is Tacky Christmas Sweater! It's perfect because in February, I bought this wonderful cat sweater at Goodwill with the sole intention of wearing it to a holiday party. I know it's only November, but any opportunity to wear a cat sweater is a great day, right? Plus I have somewhat of a cat obsession, so I think it's safe to say this is the best theme of the year...

In keeping with the Christmas theme, I wore a red lip and red bandana and my favourite dark green corduroy leggings. It was a bit warm for the leggings, but overall I feel like I committed to the theme pretty well.

DAY 160

I love layering large button downs over clothing because it gives it an old-school 90s vibe. Since the button down is such a bright red, I kept the rest of the outfit neutral so it looked sleek and not too busy. After class, I went out to dinner and a play with one of my friends, so this look worked perfectly for night too!

The booties are perfect for class and a casual night because they're pretty low which means they are comfortable. I'm looking for some in a cognac colour, and I'm hoping to find some during Black Friday. The fact that I, potentially the clumsiest person of all time, can walk around in these with no problem (I did almost fall over some leaves today, but if no one saw it doesn't count.. right?) speaks to the versatility and practicality of the shoes!

DAY 159

I think it's time I invested in some new faux-leather pieces because upon reflection, I seem to be wearing the same pair of leggings at least once a week.

This leather look of the week featured a crop top I purchased from Tobi.com and a jean shirt over top because it was absolutely FREEZING today. The fact that these leggings look like pants dresses up the outfit when in actuality they're just as comfortable as pajamas. Perfect for Wednesday, when all I want to do is sleep for hours and not go to my 9 AM discussion class.

DAY 158

White is very on-trend this season, so get rid of the "no white after labour day" rule and bring back all your summer whites to re-style them for the colder seasons!

White pants are easy because they go with literally everything; I borrowed my roommate's sweater and added a colourful scarf and berry lips for a pop of colour. Other whites, such as a white shirt or a white skirt or dress, can be layered with sweaters, blazers, or cardigans to instantly become winter-appropriate.

The whole "no white in winter" idea never made sense to me anyway because what screams "winter" louder than snow? And what colour is snow? Exactly.
