DAY 78

Today was the first UVA home football game!

Due to the southern tradition of girls in pearls, guys in ties, all the girls wore sundresses (in shades of orange and blue, obviously) and wedges and guys had to wear shirts and ties, which sucks given the 100 degree weather and burning sun. In the end, a hurricane ended the game early- thankfully, cause I am absolutely clueless about what goes on during a football game- so I got to change into something more comfortable quickly.

Dress- Forever 21
Wedges- Target
Rings- Forever 21 and Greece
Gold cuff- Body Central (awful quality, left green marks on my skin! never buying anything from that store again..)

DAY 77

Happy Friday!

I put together this look last minute out of desperation at not being able to find anything in my closet (it's laundry day). I'm pretty happy with how it turned out- the top half, with the statement necklace and the pseudo-topknot I made with what little hair I have, give the look an elegant feel. This is contrasted with the casual vibe of the crop top and the flowy navy blue fabric of the skirt- perfect for a day of class where you don't want to look wayyy too done up but also don't want to wear the same running shorts and sorority tee you'd been sporting the rest of the week.

Crop Top- an old tank I had when I was like 8
Skirt- Gap
Necklace- my mom made it!
Hair band- Lululemon

DAY 76

I am on the hunt for some loose and flowy colourful shorts to end up the summer season- they are so cute paired with sweaters and boots! For now, though, I have to stick to what I have, and what I have are these tight (ish) short shorts from Marshall's that somehow still fit me. While not exactly the late-summer-shorts look I want to achieve, I still think it works for class!

At somewhat of a loss as to what to do with my newly short and therefore limiting hair, I decided to go back to my favourite red bandana. Thank GOD it works well for short layered hair as well, not sure what I would have done without it while I wait for my hair to grow back! Bandanas are a great and chic way to keep your hair out of your face, and since they come in so many different colours, you can style so many different looks around them! I may or may not have accumulated a collection of around twenty... oops

DAY 75

For most of last fall, winter, and spring, flannel has been my go-to clothing accessory. When I got lazy (and cold) I even started wearing assorted flannels to frat parties.. maybe not the best look, but at least I wasn't freezing on the walk to Greek Row!

For the summer or early fall, I'm keeping my flannels and wearing them by tying them around my waist or layered over a tank or tee shirt. This comes in handy for rainy days like today or cold lecture halls, and also instantly pulls together an outfit if you wear a tank underneath that has complementing colours to one of the colours in the flannel (I.E I wore this burnt orange tank because it matches the deep reds and orange-y yellows in the flannel).

DAY 74

First day of classes! Since the lecture halls are always like negative twenty degrees, it's important to layer. So, I brought my favourite sweater to layer over this adorable crop top I found in my mother's closet and my staple high waisted shorts!

DAY 73

The leotard: both a ballet and fashion essential.
One of my pet peeves clothing-wise is having tank tops or shirts that keep getting untucked from shorts. There is nothing more annoying than having to constantly re-adjust your clothing. The solution? Buy a leotard!

This particular one was my mother's, so I didn't have to go and buy it. But I promise it's infinitely easier to wear than a tank, especially with high waisted shorts!

I'm also a few months behind on this next trend, but I've recently been wearing a lot of dainty knuckle rings. I love the boho look they create!

DAY 72

Stripes/ the nautical thing in general are a wardrobe essential that never seem to go out of style. Whether it's preppy striped tops paired with Sperries or pinstriped suits that keep re-appearing in fashion magazines, stripes are definitely a wardrobe essential!

I found this top on supersale on at trip to Old Navy for leggings... obviously I couldn't pass up the $4 price tag! I can't wait to wear it in the fall with leggings and a lightweight jacket over it.

Also: note that all the packing boxes are gone from my room! Progress.

DAY 71

Moving in to my new apartment! I wore this tank and some shorts for ease of movement and comfort.

Now that I'm all settled in at uni, I'll hopefully be posting more put together clothes, seeing as I have things to do other than stay at home and watch Desperate Housewives reruns all day...

DAY 70

Today I moved into uni, which means I completely forgot about a picture today... oops

This is one I took right before I left for Greece for a day in which I had to do a bunch of last minute errands. I made both the top and the skirt! Quite proud of my cutting skills actually in this outfit...

DAY 69

New hair!!

I haven't cut my hair in two years, so I've been long overdue for a while. I think that hair is as essential to personal style and outfits as the clothes themselves, and so I can't wait to see what new styles I can do! Probably very few, seeing as my hair-styling abilities are very limited..

Since I was preoccupied with my wonderful new hair, I completely forgot to get a picture of the back of this shirt. It's a halter top that my mother's friend gave her (and I stole) and I love it!

Top- not sure, it was a gift!

DAY 68

Check any fashion site or magazine and I can guarantee you that around this time of year there are always articles about carrying your summer essentials into fall. I'm all for this idea-let's be honest, does anyone ACTUALLY have enough clothes to form completely separate wardrobes for each season? of course not- but the reverse should also be encouraged: wearing fall colours and styles in the summer.

I'm not talking scarves and sweaters (although there are great light weight summer versions of both- I've been obsessing over this Brandy sweater and this Nasty Gal cropped sweater for a while) because in the heat of the summer, it's a little impractical to be wearing them.

I mean colours! Forest greens, deep purples, navy blues, and oxblood reds are some of the most universally flattering colours, since dark colours look good on everyone, and as such should not be restricted to cooler months.
Plus, they make a tan look real good.

I love this green light weight top that a friend gave me for all around the year, and for the summer, pairing it with shorts is a good way to keep balance in an outfit and ensure you don't die of overheating.

DAY 67

As much as I love packing, there are few things I hate more than unpacking.
Actually, the whole post-holiday ordeal is awful; you have to put everything away, catch up on missed work... it's all very depressing and although I usually try and put it off for as long as I can, I decided to do work today, seeing as I have to get everything moved in to my new apartment (!) at UVA by the weekend.

So it was a long (thanks to jet lag, I woke up at 6 AM after only four hours of sleep), hot day, and since I was going to be doing a lot of work in my house, pants were obviously out of the question. In no mood to unpack, I looked through the back of my closet and found this old gem: a coral crochet dress from Target my mother bought me when I was 14. It was longer then, and way too loose for 14-year-old me who had no boobs. However, it was the perfect choice for today, and since coral is such a timeless summer classic, I (hopefully) still looked semi-put together while running around all day.

Shop your closets! You never know what you'll find!

DAYS 42-66

I'm baaack!

I'm well aware that I've completely abandoned this blog for twenty five days, and hence am not sure if it qualifies as a daily style project, but I have a good excuse. Namely, I was too busy getting tan (burnt) and eating to do daily ootd's/ I had no wifi. Nonetheless, I did take a picture each day of my outfits while on vacation!

So I guess this qualifies as my beach vacation style guide/lookbook, albeit a shit one because the pictures are not very well thought out and most of my outfits were thrown on with not much thought (honestly it was hot, I was lazy, and had a very limited desire to impress people).

The key to packing lightly for almost a month away is packing a lot of staple pieces that can be worn many different ways- for example, I mostly rotated through three pairs of shorts and a skirt, with basic tanks or tees to switch up the colours. I also kept my shoe collection to a minimum- bringing two pairs of sandals (one black and one brown pair for versatility), flip flops, comfortable shoes for hiking excursions or the airport, and maybe a pair of wedges for dressy nights is more than enough for a month- long holiday.

All in all, it was a really relaxing few weeks and even though I just got back two hours ago from a day of airplane travel (including a highly unwelcome four-hour layover in Canada), I already miss it so much... counting down the months till I go  back next summer!

(and that time, hopefully with a larger suitcase..)
