DAY 41

I'm flying to Greece today! I've been counting down the days for a few weeks now.. I miss being tan and eating good food (sorry UVA dining). Unfortunately for this portfolio, it means I'll be out of outfit updates for three weeks now due to a lack of wifi/my computer is an old Dell computer and I am NOT bringing it with me through security cause it's too damn heavy. I'll still be taking daily outfit pictures though and when I return, I'll figure out how to incorporate them into the blog!

Travel outfits are important. You wanna look good (generally speaking) and be comfortable/warm, because eight hour airplane trips in a freezing airplane sitting next to a screaming kid in a tiny seat is not enjoyable in skirts and flip flops. Go for layering and be sure to keep your jewelry to a minimum. You do not want to be that bitch that makes everyone wait twenty minutes in the metal detectors because you chose to wear all your stackable bracelets on one day.

For shoes, make sure you wear comfortable shoes! My all-stars are my go-to, although flats (they're quick to take on and off for security) or boots (when it's cold, wearing boots is a very good idea) are also good options.

DAY 40

Today was the day before I leave for a few weeks in Greece, so I had quite a few things to do. Writing this is the first opportunity I've gotten to sit down since 6:30 AM, which should give an idea of what a busy day I had (I haven't even started packing yet, ugh).

I might have mentioned this earlier, but I do like wearing dresses quite a bit in the summer, especially on shopping days. They're cute and comfortable and instantly dress you up. You never know who you're gonna run into at Target or the bank, so always put some effort into your appearance! I found a quote on Pinterest a while back that I quite like: Always dress like you're going to see your worst enemy. If you go by this motto, you're bound to be ready for any surprise bump-ins, whether you run into your ex at the supermarket or in the unlikely event you find Ryan Gosling at the pharmacy (a girl can dream, right?).

DAY 39

I've been on the lookout for a cheap chambray shirt (for those who don't know, this is a fancy name for a jean button-down shirt) for AGES. I know there are about 50 million out there at stores like forever 21 or charlotte russe, but for some reason I could never quite bring myself to shell out even $20 for something I was convinced I could find in A) my mother's closet or B) a thrift store for less than $10.

Well, a year passed and since neither of those options ended up working, I had pretty much resigned myself to spending $20 for one of these versatile staple pieces, when I walked into my new favourite store, Garage, (see countless past posts featuring a certain cardigan) and found this baby for only $10! It was reduced from $40! See, bargain hunting and waiting patiently DOES work. Sometimes.

I love combining neutral colours like brown and black, and adding another neutral colour- in this case, the chambray shirt- is an easy and chic way to maintain a classy, effortless- looking outfit.

DAY 38

As I've mentioned, DIY-ing and revamping old clothing items is a big hobby of mine. And one of the easiest things to DIY are old t-shirts! They can be cut, braided, and styled in so many different ways that you can come up with a million different styles. And if you don't have some old shirts lying around waiting to be reused, you can find t-shirts in all different colours at Michael's or any other craft store.

This particular cut was inspired by a Brandy Melville skeleton design. It literally took five minutes to re-create and is the perfect summer shirt with a bandeau underneath!

DAY 37

Find your colour.
This, along with "never leave the house in crocs", is some of the best fashion advice I've heard. Find a few key colours that work with your complexion, hair colour, and eye colour, and build your wardrobe around them. This helps with shopping as well, as it narrows your options and cuts down on money and time! Finding your colour is the difference between someone saying "you look amazing!" and "that's an amazing shirt!"; when you wear your colour, people notice you more, and you just look better.

For me, red is one of those colours. I have olive-ish skin (Mediterranean genes coming in handy), brown hair, and brown eyes, and from repeated trials, I have found that the colour red really compliments my features and therefore, I tend to wear a lot of it!

Here I wore one of my favourite dresses from Tobi for a dinner out with some friends. I love this dress- the colour is great, the cut is simple and flattering for every body shape (and forgiving if/when I eat too much and develop a food baby), and it's really versatile! I highly recommend tobi.com for all dresses- they always have discounts and the dresses are beautiful and generally reasonably priced.

DAY 36

For today's outfit, I paired my staple over-sized cardi from Garage with a simple a-line dress and black accessories. I went to the mall for a long day of shopping where it is typically subzero, thanks to the air conditioning, (hence the cardigan, even in 90 degree heat outside) and therefore aimed for ease of change, comfort, and style (because you don't want to be that girl in a store that everyone gives dirty looks to because it looks like you just rolled out of bed. If you're leaving the house, you need to put some thought into your appearance; you never know who you'll bump into!).

This may have just been another excuse to wear my favourite cardigan.
But it's wonderful! It's the perfect summer sweater and you can wear it with literally anything and it will automatically complete the look. This is what happens when you find that one perfect item that fits well, looks good, is comfortable, and goes with everything....

DAY 35

Recognize the top?
It's the same skirt from yesterday's outfit! I have about fifty of these H&M mini skirts in all different colours and patterns. I don't even know why I keep buying them- they're horribly uncomfortable and make you look bloated even if you haven't eaten in like hours. Yet,  for some reason, I keep buying them. It's an illness.

Anyways, the point of that ramble is that I have a lot of skirts and not a lot of use for them as actual skirts, so I tend to re-purpose them quite a lot as tube tops! I find they work quite well with high waisted shorts and are perfect for a simple addition of colour to your outfits.

DAY 34

From looking through my blog, it is easy to tell that I am more of a flats girl than a heels girl. Could be cause I'm already almost 5'10 and tower over everyone as is (which is fine if it's just my friends, but once I start being taller than any cute guys in the vicinity, we have a problem), or it could be simply because I am far clumsier than is socially acceptable to be when you're almost 20.

So, needless to say, I love my boots; ESPECIALLY my combat boots. These babies have been with me through 9am classes, frat parties (and the beer spills and other various stains that arise from those situations), and long trips, and I love them. The 90 degree weather was not gonna stop me from wearing them, and so I love wearing them with short skirts or short shorts to give my outfits a grungier look. Generally, brown combat boots would work better in the summer than black, but for this particular style black worked out just fine.

Love these linen high-waisted shorts; such a timeless look! Short shorts are really in this season; just be sure to keep them relatively loose-fitting to keep em classy, especially if paired with heels or wedges.

DAY 32

White is one of the most universally flattering summer colours, simply because it looks fresh and amplifies your tan. Which, honestly, is the point of most of our summer attire, right? No one wants to look pasty in the summer. It's just not attractive.

White on white is a trend that has been around for a while and doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon. Here, I tried it a few ways; once, simply with gold accessories and neutral shoes, another time with a pop of colour, and a third time with a sunhat.

Hat- Greece
Coral blazer- Marshalls
White lace eyelet shirt- Zara
White skinnies- American Eagle
Gold Cuff bracelet- Body Central (I think)
