DAY 16

Although the weather's been absolute shit this past month (come on Virginia), there is one upside: I can wear my white jeans! I love the contrast they make when paired with a bright or dark shirt, and they're perfect for the summertime and spring because they 1) make you look tan and 2) look dressier than jeans but are just as comfortable! Unfortunately, it is usually too hot to wear them out, so I'm taking advantage of this cooler weather while it lasts.

Also love this feather-printed shirt from Zara- my all-time favourite store since I was in elementary school. I know feathering your hair went out of style a few years ago, and I don't think I'm edgy enough to pull off feather accessories, so any time I can incorporate this design in my outfit I love it!

Top- Zara
White jeans- American Eagle
Black ballet flats- Payless (I think)
Gold coin necklace- Icing

DAY 15

Yesterday I found this wonderful store called Garage. It reminds me a lot of Brandy Melville, except the prices are basically half or more that of Brandy! I bought this cardigan which is an exact replica of the $70-something one Brandy carries for only $15.

Cardigan- Garage
T-shirt- Forever 21
High waisted shorts- thrifted & DIY'd
Sandals- Birkenstock

DAY 14

Went to the mall today. Wore a blazer.
Not much else to say

(I am well aware the last picture is both horribly grainy and unbearably awkward.. it's the only one I have of a close up of the earring though, so sacrifices had to be made)
Blazer- Marshalls
White skinny jeans- American Eagle
Charcoal grey tank- Zara
Pink ring- F21
Gold arrow ring- Greece
Tribal statement earrings- F21

DAY 13

The reason I never throw anything away (especially not my clothes, no matter how old they are) is because I am convinced I can re-purpose or re-style pretty much anything. The exception to this for a long time was those awful babydoll tight shirts that everyone and their mother had back in middle school- the ones that almost always came from Aeropostale or Hollister or Abercrombie. There is just no way to make them look good anymore!

Today, I decided to try and "fix" one of my older maroon ones from Aeropostale because I love the colour. So, I paired it with an old a-line skirt I had and it didn't look awful.... definitely not one of my favourite looks but eh not so bad for an old shirt I was prepared to throw away!

Top- Aeropostale
Skirt- my mother's
Belt- my mother's (Greece)
Earrings- Target
Gladiators- Athens

DAY 12

Another hot day...this 365 day project is hard to do when on days like today, all I wanna do is sit around in a t-shirt with no makeup on and my hair out of my face. I am in absolutely no mood to be stylish on days like today. I just want to nap.

BUT if there's one thing I've learned, the worst possible thing you can wear on hot days is pants. And I don't mean just long pants; I mean shorts, capris, gym pants... basically anything that buttons/is tight-ish around your legs. Normally I would just not wear pants, but on days where I have to leave my house/room/bed, I find skirts and dresses are the best way to go because it feels the same as not wearing pants.
Except you're not flashing everyone.

Strapless dress- Target
Jean shirt- Lands End
Hat- I have no idea, it's my mother's
Wedges- Target
Silver spiral bracelet- Greece

DAY 11

Today, it was hot. Hot weather + long day of work= unoriginal and rather boring outfit

The most interesting thing about this is my headband (ok it's not interesting at all) which I made from an old t-shirt! After making this one from an old tie-dye shirt that I cropped and cut up, I kind of went crazy cutting up old shirts and making headbands from them. I have about twelve.

Knit cardigan- Aerie
Grey tank- H&M
Khaki shorts- Esprit
White watch- Lulus
Pendant necklace- Forever 21
Headband- DIY'd

DAY 10

I made it to day ten!!! Not gonna lie, I didn't think I would be able to keep it up for more than a weekend..

I've been wanting to try the denim-on-denim trend for a while so I decided to do it today in honour of the ten days! The key is to remember to wear different shades of denim and pair it with some sort of pop of colour. Otherwise, you look like you're wearing a denim jumpsuit which is just overall a super unattractive look.

Red bandana- an old napkin I had lying around
High-waisted shorts- thrifted & DIY'd
Denim shirt- old Lands End
Booties- Forever 21

Part of the reason I like having days off work every now and then is because I don't have to wear hideous, masculine-looking, all-black uniforms that allow little to no creativity. Today, Sunday, was my first day off in a while, so I celebrated with a brunch with some friends and a dinner out!

Black and white is a classic combination that is my go-to for when I want to look put together but don't have time (or honestly, don't want to put in the effort) to find an appealing colourful outfit (coordinating colours is harder than it seems). It's easy to just add a pop of colour, too, if you want or keep it simple with gold or silver accessories!

Also, I'm OBSESSED with this ivory lace skirt from Urban... & it was only $10!

Black chiffon top- Cotton On
Lace circle skirt- Urban Outfitters
White bandeau- Papaya
Black cloth Mary-Janes- Monastiraki (Athens)
Gold ring- Skiathos
Black clutch- vintage
Gold earrings- Charming Charlie

Finally went to the zoo! I was probably a little too excited than I should have been to go considering I'm 19..

What I had forgotten about a long day at the zoo is how tiring it is and how hot it can get, especially in June. My favourite shoes to wear when I need comfort are my white high-top all-stars; they are perfect for long days of walking! Also they look good with pretty much anything.

Ivory high top all-stars
High waisted shorts- thrifted and then DIY'd
Striped crop t-shirt- my mother's from Greece

Friday, June 21, 2013

I love the combination of shorts and heels. Not only does it make an outfit feel more complete to me, but it elongates your legs and you are wayyy more comfortable than you would be in a dress!

I also love the colour of the shorts- it is so in for the spring and works well in the summer too! I love how feminine and soft it looks, especially when paired with cream, grey, or camel colours.

Cream knit cropped sweater- Thrifted
Dusty rose shorts- Aerie
Stacked heel booties- Forever 21
Pink ring- Forever 21
Gold arrow ring- Skiathos
Pendant necklace- Forever 21

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I'm not much of a dress person; I'll wear them occasionally for occasions where it's REQUIRED to wear them, but usually, "dressing up" means dressing up pants or shorts with heels or wedges for me. Since I'm like ten feet tall, dresses tend to be super short on me or fit differently than they were intended to, so I usually wear my sundresses with sandals to avoid falling/flashing everyone.

I've also been totally obsessed with gladiators since age four.. could be cause I'm Greek, but I've always had at least one good pair to wear daily in the summer. I love that they're casual yet elegant at the same time!

When dealing with a bold outfit colour that's the main piece of the outfit, like this orange-red dress (it's turned up redder in the pictures than it is in real life for some reason), I like to either play it safe with neutrals or metallics (gold and red will always be one of my favourite colour combinations, hence the gold bracelet and ring) or you can colour block. I did both, and I absolutely love the contrast the red dress and the turquoise necklace provide! To make both colours pop, use colours that are directly opposite one another on the colour wheel- for example, orange and blue.

Dress- Target
Turquoise necklace- my mother's from Italy
Gold cuff bracelet- Body Central
Gold arrow ring- Skiathos, Greece
Gladiator sandals- Monastiraki, Greece
